Spread Your Light Through Kindness

My Dear Friends,

I’m back!

It feels like an eternity since my last post, sorry we have been away for so long!….. My wife May and I have been away for Christmas and the New Year, spending time with family and recharging our batteries in readiness for yet another year back here in Shanghai.

2015 was a very interesting year, one in which was full highs and lows, my heath took many twisted turns for the worst and I had that death experience in the beginning of December, that experience in itself gave me a severe wake up call, it focussed my attention towards myself, to my life and to my future, it helped me realise what is important and what is not and brought greater realisation re the 80/20 principle, so now we are back and forging ahead into 2016 I now need to focus more on myself to my health and what means most to me and really start living the 80% for me, my health and my family, and engaging  in and enjoying what I love to do, my spiritual practice, my channelling, healing etc and spending the remaining 20% on work and paying the bills 🙂

I will continue writing as often as possible and this year I intend to pull together a book filled with my spiritual posts from this blog, my tweets, short self-help articles, items of inspiration, photography and general information on compassion, love, peace and happiness. I have been meaning to do this for many years now and now I feel that the time is right to get this done, so if you have any connections or experience in how to create and publish a book, please let me know because I have no idea where to start!

My focus for 2016 is sharing my light through kindness and I will look at every opportunity to share the gifts given to me with as many people as possible, I will shine brightly in 2016 and give out my love, my support and my healing energies to all as needed.

Blessings of love and light to you all and my wish that you, your family and your friends are blessed with love, good health, peace and happiness for 2016.

How Long Can Compassion Last in Nursing?

Published 12/05/2015 by inspiringyourspirit

Artical written by Helen Cowan, R.N. — Oxford, UK

Article taken from an Aysha Mendes Blog for International Nurses Day ayshamendes.com

Having been a nurse for 11 years, I have encountered and experienced tales of joy, inspiration, resilience, frustration, and the darkest despair. Nursing is a fascinating career in its variety of roles and depth of human understanding, and it’s an immense honour to come alongside a patient and make their life, or perhaps just that day, more manageable. This must be remembered when frustrations arise from all corners, sometimes becoming overbearing.

Patients themselves, through no fault of their own, can test the patience, kindness and compassion of the best-intentioned nurse. In my current workplace, I can think of Martha, the desperately underweight, sad lady who refuses the best efforts to help her eat, or Phyllis, the lady with severe constipation who refuses all intervention, or Reginald, the stroke patient who refuses to believe he can ever get out of bed and so has remained bed-bound for 5 years despite the encouragement of the entire caring team. Then there is John, who shouts for help all day even when staff are at his bedside offering to help in any way. Every day, we think that we will be the ones to really make a difference, and yet we fail again.

As nurses, we can continue to care for patients like these and treasure every moment where we can help, but it’s hard when everything else seems like it’s against us. For example, the 8-hour shift that becomes a 15-hour shift because there is no nurse to cover the late shift as a result of short staffing. Or the plan to carry out a complex leg dressing or set of blood tests, only to find that there is no equipment. The last straw might be when we feel attack from all corners when we are just trying to do our best.

During one particularly trying shift, I was approached by a sour-faced inspector demanding answers to questions that seemed to focus on paperwork and not patients, a GP who seemed harassed at being called out to visit a patient with a minor, yet valid, ailment, and a relative with a long list of complaints that should have been discussed with the (absent) management rather than the busy nurse. Meanwhile, the daily newspaper heralded another story about abuse at the hands of nurses.

As this was unfolding, a dear patient was dying and had no family. I took the decision that my most important role was to be with her as she breathed her last breath. I read to her some precious words that I know she had chosen and held her hand as she slipped away. Acting on decisions like this, where I know that patient care has really come first, helps to keep me in the profession.

…………………………

Nurses and Nursing, a service provided to us all over the world by people with big hearts often working for very low pay, under extreme pressure and working extremely long hours. It’s about time we honoured this profession properly all around the world not just with a international nurses day but through the giving of respect for what they do for humanity, their love, compassion and continual caring attitude is what keeps us alive and they should be honoured accordingly!

Namaste my Dear Nurses of the world and thank you all for your service.

Freezing Homeless Child (Social Experiment)

Published 25/02/2015 by inspiringyourspirit

My Dear Friends,

Please take a few moments to watch this short video and think about what you see, it literally broke my heart to see literally hundreds if not thousands of people in New York walking past this young boy in the freezing cold of day with no one stopping to see how he was, let alone offering him any help. Until the one homeless man walked up and offered not only help in the form of his own coat, but also the little money he had whilsy he also offered his advice and comforting support for what he saw in this young boy!

I love the words of this homeless man…“Im homeless too and We got to look out for one another”

Remember my dear friends “If you wait until you can do everything for everybody, instead of something for somebody, you’ll end up doing nothing for nobody”!

Let’s together make changes to our world, let’s bring humanity back together where we actually care for one another, where we don’t chase money and things, where we don’t turn our backs on the needy, where we start loving one another and we listen to each other with the intent to understand…

We can make a difference, we can make change happen…but we have to stand up and say…… “I will”

It’s More Fun Being Compassionate and Kind.

Published 22/01/2015 by inspiringyourspirit

soul smile

It’s actually so much easier
and much more fun
Being compassionate, kind
Generous and forgiving.
But people tend to forget this
And wonder why they find themselves
Living in a world which is
Out of balance.

When we forget ourselves
We loose touch with the Earth,
Believe in powerlessness,
Invent a wrathful God
Cruel leaders
Uncaring parents
Rebellious children
A desolate world.

Your relationship with the Universe
Reflects what you remember.
There is no advantage to living in fear.
Wake up my friends
And pay attention.

This simple act of kindness like so many others that we can do will help others in their time of need and bring about the receipt of goodness in response to our acts of kindness.

Please watch the video and enjoy the message.

The Difficult Challenge Is Met With Joy.

Published 03/12/2014 by inspiringyourspirit

smiles in sad hearts

In action find stillness.

Seek the simple kernel

At the heart of every matter.

See the greatness in a small kindly gesture.

Make forgiveness your intention

And your enemies your allies.

Love is perceived in all you meet.

Civilized man, afraid of natures simplicity

Creates complex problems;

The healer creates wholeness

By loving whomever God has put in his way.

When there is trust, promises are not required

And the difficult challenge is met with joy.

Naughty or Nice, Compassionate or Psychopath!

Published 19/09/2014 by inspiringyourspirit

My Dear Friends,

Compassion, something that is always on my mind, am I compassionate enough, do I help people who are in need of my help and support, do I listen with Empathy (with the intent to really understand), do I go out of my way to do my best for the environment, for mother nature, for the people around me and for the long term good of our planet?

All good questions and ones in which I ask myself each and every day.

I came across this really interesting Nat Geo video re Compassion, it has some really cool observations, tests of compassion and pointers to watch out for in yourself and in others.

Please give it a few minutes of your busy day and think on the content…Are you compassionate?

Have a wonderful weekend full of love, happiness and compassion.

When Words are Both True and Kind, They Can Change The World

Wise words from The Buddha

I intend for My Words to be both True and Kind, I always look to be compassionate and true in all my daily interactions, I know sometimes we can get frustrated and kindness can briefly flitter away from our mind and our intentions especially when someone is cruel or unkind to us, but if you practice kindness and give love and kindness in return to all then you will start to see the benefits and you will attract more loving kindness into your life.

Life Standards

Wise Words indeed: Forgiveness. Kindness. Honesty. Happiness. Goodness. Giving your Best.

Mother Theresa, what an outstanding woman, her life was completely selfless and her everyday was filled with giving of her love, her time and her wisdom to the sick, the poor and the street children of India. Mother Teresa said “By blood, I am Albanian. By citizenship, an Indian. By faith, I am a Catholic nun. As to my calling, I belong to the world. As to my heart, I belong entirely to the Heart of Jesus.

In April 1996, Mother Teresa fell and broke her collar bone. In August she suffered from malaria and failure of the left heart ventricle. She had heart surgery but it was clear that her health was declining. The Archbishop of Calcutta, Henry Sebastian D’Souza, said he ordered a priest to perform an exorcism on Mother Teresa with her permission when she was first hospitalised with cardiac problems because he thought she may be under attack by the devil. On 13 March 1997, she stepped down from the head of Missionaries of Charity. She died on 5 September 1997. At the time of her death, Mother Teresa’s Missionaries of Charity had over 4,000 sisters, and an associated brotherhood of 300 members, operating 610 missions in 123 countries. These included hospices and homes for people with HIV/AIDS, leprosy and tuberculosis, soup kitchens, children’s and family counselling programs, personal helpers, orphanages, and schools. The Missionaries of Charity were also aided by Co-Workers, who numbered over 1 million by the 1990s.

Mother Teresa lay in repose in St Thomas, Kolkata for one week prior to her funeral, in September 1997. She was granted a state funeral by the Indian government in gratitude for her services to the poor of all religions in India. Her death was mourned in both secular and religious communities. In tribute, Nawaz Sharif, the Prime Minister of Pakistan said that she was “a rare and unique individual who lived long for higher purposes. Her life-long devotion to the care of the poor, the sick, and the disadvantaged was one of the highest examples of service to our humanity.”The former U.N. Secretary-General Javier Pérez de Cuéllar said: “She is the United Nations. She is peace in the world.

Rest in Peace Mother Theresa and thank you for the gifts of love and compassion you gave to the world.

IS THERE PEACE IN YOUR HEART?

Published 11/06/2013 by inspiringyourspirit

Peace: It’s in everyone’s heart!

Or is it?

945146_468243903253215_2098707558_n

When we are born, we are innocent, we are at peace, we are love, we are compassion, and there is no hate, no greed, no envy, and no spite, just PEACE.

So what goes wrong?

From day one we watch and learn.

The love and the peace slowly get’s knocked out of us by our parents, our siblings, our families, our friends, our teachers, our neighbors, our supervisors, our leaders, our peers, by our governments and society.

Deep down, Love and Peace is there; it is STILL in our hearts, we just need to go deep inside and find it and it can be done! We can be at peace with ourselves, with others and with the world.

So who am I to say anything about Peace and Love…Well I’m nobody, I’m just a man, a husband, a father, a friend, a business leader, a peer…someone who cares! Someone with passion, someone who wants to make a difference to this world, someone who wants to see this world change for the better, someone who wants to see peace in his lifetime, someone who wants to see smiles on peoples faces, someone who wants to see the end of famine, someone who wants to see the environment heal, someone who wants to swim in the ocean with out the fear of pollution, someone who wants to see the end to endless greed by the few at the expense of the many, someone who wants to see justice done to the so called leaders of this world who continue to take and give nothing in return……Where will it all end, and can I make a difference?

Lao Tzu shared these quotes with us and I think he any many other sage’s, God’s and Masters left us with words that we have forgotten, like we have forgotten that WE  STILL HAVE PEACE AND LOVE in our HEARTS:-

Good Deeds

Published 26/03/2013 by inspiringyourspirit

wow-quote

What is a ‘Good Deed’? And should we do them or even need to do them?

Well, I guess that depends on what you deem as a good deed! In my mind a ‘Good Deed’ is something you do for someone else without any question as to why and without any need for a response, for thanks or for any form of repayment for that deed. It is a free service if you will, a no questions asked deed given freely from your heart and your very soul.

734670_200052740136934_514663860_n

I remember my dear mother telling us when we were young to go out and do some good deeds for our neighbors, especially our elderly neighbors, like; go to the shops for them, mow their lawns, tidy their flower beds, clean their car, wash their windows, walk their dog, simple little tasks that made us understand the simple values of life, of being neighborly and how to communicate with others. But, how far does a good deed go before repayment in some shape or form comes around?

This also brings me back to my earlier question, ‘What is a Good Deed’?

If I see someone begging on the street, do I give him or her some money? Is that a good deed or am I giving them the money to give to someone else who is forcing them on the streets to beg for cash, or is that good deed giving them the cash to go and buy drugs or alcohol!

If I see someone fall on the street, should I stop to help them up, offer them a helping hand or will my act of kindness lead to them to blame me or allege I pushed them down in the first place!
If I see someone being accosted or robbed on the street should I intervene and offer support towards the victim or will that good deed get me in trouble and then become the one who is attacked and maybe even injured or killed!

Years ago, we would have not thought twice over doing any one of these good deeds for our fellow human beings, the problems lie with our society as it is now and how it has evolved! The worries of legal action has stopped us from becoming involved, we now turn a blind eye to our fellow humans because of the fear of legal action. We turn a blind eye if we see someone being attacked because of our fear of being hurt or injured.

The Internet and media are full of stories and videos of this nature and I’m sure we see them with our own eyes each and everyday. I know I have and each time it saddens me.

I have experienced accidents here in China where people have been lying in the street badly injured from being knocked off their bicycle but people don’t stop, they just look and walk right on by, cars and trucks just move on by and no one wants to be involved due to the worry of being implicated with the accident and held responsible for the medical costs!
I have personally been beaten on the streets by thugs for helping an innocent victim and people just walked on by while I was receiving a beating!
I have seen a lady being robbed of her cell phone in the middle of the day on a busy pedestrian street and whilst she was screaming and being kicked and punched by her male attacker, people all around her just walked right on by until the robber gave up, took the phone an just wandered away into the crowd!

I could go on and on, but it takes me back again to my question. ‘What is a Good Deed, and should we still do them?

Did you know there is a Good Deeds Organisation on the Internet?

http://www.thegooddeedsorganisation.com

I would love to know your thoughts and for you to share your experiences.

Kindness

Published 15/11/2012 by inspiringyourspirit

Kindness in words creates confidence, Kindness in thinking creates profoundness, Kindness in giving creates Love.

Kindness can restore hope to many hearts through a single act.

Kind words can be short and easy to speak but their echoes are truly endless.

Spiritually, Kindness is also considered to be one of the seven Divine Virtues.

We need to assume our responsibilities on bringing kindness and compassion to this world,
to bring justice,
to bring peace
and true fraternity among men.

Today, give a stranger one of your smiles. It might be the only sunshine he sees all day.

If you want others to be happy, practice compassion. If you want to be happy, practice compassion.

Kindness is the language which the deaf can hear and the blind can see.

Namaste
