The legend of the serpent and the firefly

Published 06/02/2013 by inspiringyourspirit

serpent-and-firefly_Traditional-Tales_Humanity-Healing

Once upon a time there was a serpent that was persecuting a firefly. The poor firefly fled from the ferocious predator, using all the energy created by fear to speed him along.

The serpent, however, never considered giving up his pursuit, so he chased the poor firefly and made him run away, and again chased him and made him run away  the second and the third day.
The ordeal continued, until the end of the third day.
Without the strength to continue, the firefly stopped and asked the Serpent, “May I ask you three questions?”
The Serpent said with a haughty tone, “I’m not used to answering anyone, but since I am going to devour you, you can ask me anything”.
1) “Am I part of your food chain?”
“No” answered the Serpent
2) “Did I hurt you or provoke you in any way?” asked the firefly.
“No” repeated the serpent.
3) “So, why do you want to devour me?”
“Well”, said the Serpent, “because I can’t stand to see your shining light.”

……….
In your life, there will always be “serpents” that will come about and try to steal your light and your dreams;….. you will have two options:
1) You can stop shinning your light, so no serpent will be after you any longer

or

2) You can let your light shine even brighter and learn how to deal with people like that.

The Choice is yours…Which will you choose?

Moving from Attachment to Detachment with Love

Published 05/02/2013 by inspiringyourspirit

1550_10151240073931647_175648707_n

An article by Baba Shuddhaanandaa Brahmachari

Recently I was asked this question: How does one best practice both detachment and active compassion? Like with one’s friends and children? How do you know when to give guidance or advice and when to let them go, to make their own mistakes?

All human souls in this world are bound by the fetters of attachment. Your strongest emotional bonds are with the ones who have come closest to your heart in your relationships and those with whom you have lived for a longer time. Physical distance at times only enhances the pang of separation.
For example, parents are naturally attached to their children and most of the time they are either prayerful or worried about their children and their future. No mother or father can rise above this whether they live close to the child or at a distance. Parents always have the most unconditional love for their children. But it is sometimes hard to differentiate between unhealthy attachment and unconditional love.
Do you know what attachment is? Do you know what love is?
Attachment is unconsciousness. The ego acts like an octopus, clinging to anything it believes is needed for its survival and pleasure. Attachment is the manifestation of the ego, your false self, as it tries to confine life to its own concepts and desires. When you love someone with conditions and expectations, your love is limited, rooted in attachment, which is the root of all miseries. Love is not meant to bring miseries; it is meant to expand our life to infinite joy.
Ego gives birth to attachment. Attachment gives birth to clinging, which inevitably gives birth to pain and suffering. Love is the naturalness of your Spirit, eternally within you, living in the flow of Universe. Ego obstructs that flow with its created attachments.
Ego is the separator. It divides and separates us from the other. This is the root ignorance, our sense of separation. As a result we are separated from our own Being, our true Self, our family and friends, and also the rest of the Universe.
It is only when the realization dawns that ego is causing all the fears and frustrations that you also come to know that it is your attachments to various persons and what you think is best for them that causes lots of your frustrations. All pains in life are due to deep attachment, which again is born out of the ignorance of the true nature of love.
Love, at its essence, transforms the egoist instinct of attachment into a detached state of spiritual flowering.
Love, love, only love can open the gates to the world of divine light where lies the release of the mind from all its entanglements and attachments. The more your mind levitates toward the Higher Truth of Light and Love, the more you get detached as a natural consequence of this elevated wisdom.
Detachment is not something that you do heartlessly to achieve some Utopian object but it is the simple manifestation of your love for the Higher reality. When you love the Higher, the lower leaves you.
The path is through meditation, contemplation, actions without attachments to the results and finally unconditional surrender to the Doer of all doings. The path is Love, pure love for the whole universe.
Detachment is not indifference. Detachment is a state of mind where you transcend the need of your ego to put conditions on what you think others should believe, feel and do. You do your best for others with love, but with the sense of detachment, surrendering the results to the divine.
Compassion is not an act of doing. When your heart feels the pains of others, the sufferance of the others as if it’s happening to you or to your most near and dear, the love that flows and the actions that follow translate your deepest feelings into an active contribution toward changing that situation. Hence this love that flows could be called active compassion because as a result you naturally do what needs to be done to help others, knowing that it is not you, the doer, but the divine working through you.
Before we are ready to guide or help our family and friends from a truly loving, detached state of mind, we need to collect ourselves; we need to find our own center first. We need to find our own self in a state of integrity. Most often what we find in society is people trying to advise others but making very little impact. It is because the person, who is advising, trying to guide the other, is himself in a state of chaos inside and not centered.
To help others we need to first help ourselves.
Regular practice of meditation, impartial self-analysis, and continual vigilance over one’s own mind, mindfulness, and surrender to the ultimate will of the divine are the practice that needs to be practiced first. This brings about the inner divine spark which has its own pure energy that is the essence which makes the difference in the lives of others.
You will see that as you become more and more spiritually centered, you are able to understand what to say or do, when to say it or do it, and how to say it or do it, to anyone, regarding any situation, that the other faces. Your guidance will no longer be treated as an imposition or unwanted advice but as a loving gift from your open heart.
Thus it always boils down to the single point that we need to uplift ourselves before we are ready to help our loved one, to help others. And when you are ready, you help without helping, you are compassionate without being compassionate, you love without loving, and you do without doing because you are moving from attachment to detachment with Love.

Meditating With Your Spirit Guides

Published 24/01/2013 by inspiringyourspirit

395026_457535334303985_1197273216_n

Many people have challenges with the concept of meditation and just exactly what it means. They want to understand how to attain that beautiful state of peaceful bliss. For those practicing advanced spirituality, meditation helps them to strengthen the connection to their source energy. The guides, ascended masters and angels who help convey knowledge, insight and healing heed to this connection. While in a high vibrational state of meditation, you are completely able to control the physical body with the spiritual body and be conscious of it; thereby training your mind to stay in this state while awake. Your body can be in a constant state of renewal and recharge if you are channeling in higher realms during meditation.
The first thing to realize is it is your state of mind and not your location that matter. Some people can meditate and connect in the middle of a crowded and noisy room. They can also zoom in on people and situations going on before anyone else notices a thing. Others are too distracted by every noise and movement in the room to be able to maintain the focus they need.
Your own personal spirit guides surround you at all times with their vibrational energy. When you tap into this stream of spiritual light, their light becomes one within you, and combined with the energy from the Source, it heals our every need. This is the energy of miracles. This amazing force calls upon the Angels. They can hear our prayers, answer our calls to be healed, and lifted up into the vibration of joy and absolute peace. This is the peace all of us long to feel as soon as we are born here. This is the spiritual consciousness that thrives in us and connects us all.
The light which radiated from us when we came here, that we think we might have lost sometimes, is only a prayer, a vision, or a thought away. The ability to call on the souls in the consciousness who love us fearlessly and unconditionally is the super power of pure love which created us to which we will always return to.
As you become accustomed to the energy and the light your guides are bringing in with them, you will start discovering your own unique abilities to communicate. It takes courage and practice. There are many signs of awakening you can experience and build on to strengthen your bond with the souls who are there to assist you from the light. You may be able to feel a presence, a blast of air, a touch on your forehead or hear a bell ring. All of these signs are telling you that your meditations are successful.
Each of us may have our own ways of connecting in our prayers and meditations. There are no rules. If Spirit is coming through to you and healing your needs and comforting your fears, where and how you connect makes no difference. Whether you are standing at the top of a mountain looking out at a beautiful valley or kneeling in a great cathedral, just know you are worthy of all the love you are receiving.

What is my Mission in Life?

Published 21/01/2013 by inspiringyourspirit

03_ps26_6purpose_posters_xlarge[1]

Many of us ask “Why am I here, what is my mission in life?”

Most of us never figure it out until some major event or shock taps us on the shoulder and wakes us from our slumber. It’s during these times of great stress that we’re fully alive and connected to the divine, the spirits, the god’s The Buddha or whatever it is you believe in with great attention, more than at any other time in our lives.
And that’s when we should take full advantage of what’s going on, looking within ourselves and finding out what we are actually feeling, and connecting to the wonder of the possibilities when we are so wide open and vulnerable.
Again that word vulnerable comes up, vulnerable to our own feelings, vulnerable to others who are suffering thus having compassion, vulnerable to establishing a heart felt connection to someone reaching out wanting the same.
Thus this is our mission, to open up, to feel, to love, and expect nothing in return except the gratitude of our own heart… rooted deeply in the love of the Divine, the ONE that means most to us!
Everything we connect to on this planet is God, The Buddha, the Tao, and the Universe… our love, lover, and beloved.

So, Do you know who you are and what is your mission in Life?…..

The Most Important Question You Can Ask

Published 20/01/2013 by inspiringyourspirit

382161_338406259600595_1976393801_n

If you are working on your spiritual self the most important question is –

“What do I feel about me…right now?”

Having self-esteem means learning to love the one you see in the mirror first, and then taking care of the rest of the world.

Having self-esteem means… I think loving thoughts about myself.
Having self-esteem means… I behave in loving ways towards myself.
Having self-esteem means… I react in loving ways towards myself.
Having self-esteem means… My actions are consistently loving towards myself.
Having self-esteem means… I trust myself and my judgement.

If you feel good about the one you see in the mirror… then reward the child within with a small treat… something special 🙂

If you feel bad about yourself… then don’t beat yourself up, don’t fall prey to guilt and shame, just see in your minds eye that next time you’ll do things differently.

You’re not perfect, no one is perfect, and you came to this planet as the Divine essence of God to learn… and love yourself at the same time.

That’s the most important aspect of self-esteem… learning to love yourself as you learn.

So Love Yourself and start enjoying what this life has to offer 🙂

Cherishing the vulnerable Child

Published 17/01/2013 by inspiringyourspirit

197612_480441315310488_1421541446_n[1]

Many people feel alone, unloved, and unworthy… and those feelings spring from within. When we start seeing how wonderful we are, how supportive, caring, and nurturing we can be, life takes on a whole new light.
But it takes opening up our soul and acknowledging our pain, suffering, and feelings of being alone before we can start healing. We must first embrace the inner child’s feelings… thus opening ourselves up to be vulnerable.
In this day and age being vulnerability is looked upon as weakness, something to be shunned and pushed away. But in reality we become “real” in the process of opening ourselves up to all our flaws… thus we can change. For growth never happens to a sapling it if shuns all the manure that’s piled up around the trunk… and fertilizer for the soul is just what we need to challenge our perceptions of who we think we are.
There is no way we can go out on a limb and be strong without first being vulnerable to our own faults. Those in leadership positions who think they have all the answers are not willing to open up and be vulnerable, vulnerability means they can be wrong… that’s something we are missing right now.
Being real means we can express our feelings deeply and know that it’s great. For we are being genuine and truthful and at the same time being caring and compassionate.
Being vulnerable means it’s OK to be afraid, but if we cover our fears with ego, ego takes over sending us in a direction where we are puffed up with the egos need to be right… unable to hear the truth.
For there is great strength in being vulnerable, and great strength in truth, for truth in the end is another word for peace, and peace is what we deserve as children of God, the Cosmos, The Tao, and the Universe.

Compassion

The Practice of Compassion

compassion-1[1]

As we access and grow on the spiritual path, we inevitably prepare ourselves for the understanding of the requirements needed for our final liberation from the Wheel of Samsara.
Above all, the foremost prerequisite for this realization is the knowing of self. It is no surprise there was written on the top of the gates of the temple of Delphi the inscription that said: “Know Thyself”. This is no doubt the beginning of a life-long journey of self-discovery.
On this voyage through the many aspects and phases of life, we discover that we are not condemned to live at the mercy of the waves of fate as mere animals. One of the primary lessons we are to learn by living a human experience is the knowledge of Compassion.

What is the exact meaning of Compassion?

There is a Zen Buddhist story that illustrates the feeling of Compassion:

bagan-monks-c-awfulsara-565[1]
“Two monks were washing their bowls in the river when they noticed a scorpion that was drowning. One monk immediately scooped it up and set it upon the bank. In the process he was stung. He went back to washing his bowl and again the scorpion fell in. The monk saved the scorpion and was again stung. The other monk asked him, “Friend, why do you continue to save the scorpion when you know its nature is to sting?”
“Because,” the monk replied, “to save it is my nature.”
True Happiness – True Compassion
The true understanding of Compassion arises from the realization that every sentient being on this life journey is after the pursuit of happiness and the ceasing of all pains and sufferings. This is the inherent desire behind all actions. Sometimes, the real requisite of happiness is mascaraed by the demands of the Ego, creating a plethora of factual needs based on external situations and material goods that are, in the end, altogether incapable to provide the soul with the nourishment that it is really after. The Ego creates a veil of illusion, where everything and everybody exists from a pinpoint view of self-reference, always geared towards the individual’s idea of his own happiness.
Often, the Ego feels threatened and vigorously tries to defend its views, victories and conquered territories; and quite often immerses into a blindness of action that causes the suffering and pain of others, all in the name of its self-preservation and personal rights.
True happiness only can exist through a process of integration, understanding and healing. Every sentient being, Human, animal, plant, mineral; are all part of One Universal Cosmic essence: whatever transformation that may occur to any of these parts affects the rest of the Creation.
“I believe a leaf of grass is no less than the journey-work of the stars.”
~ Walt Whitman
In this way we can say that if some beings are upholding their rights and means to be happy for themselves while excluding others, they are, in truth, only accentuating a created systemic unbalance inside of the Universal Laws. When we speak of happiness, we are not referring, per se, to what can be reached materially and incite temporary satisfaction of our senses and Egoic anxieties; we are discussing the transcendent pursuit of bliss and liberation that thrives as an instinctive necessity underlining human nature.
Only after one awakens to the journey of spiritual life and self-development, it is possible to understand our true nature and origin. Only then we are able to fully perceive the depth and width of free will, the immutable Cosmic Laws, the requirements of being a true co-creator and the realization that we are all different manifestations from the same Source. Only through the acceptance of common ground and rights of happiness, can we safely journey towards liberation from the worlds of Samsara.
Compassion versus Sympathy
Even though many people tend to mistake these two concepts as the same thing, Compassion originates from a different place than sympathy. Sympathy comes from the realms of the personality, of the Ego. It is often accompanied by the feeling of pity and superiority with heavy tones of judgment and discrimination. Sometimes one is moved to help another less fortunate as a means of broadcasting their “goodness” and “piety” and in doing so, they deepen the differences between the beings. This is because rarely is the gesture sponsored by the true understanding of the suffering of the other, which comes from a sincere heart.
Compassion is, on the other hand, a spiritual skill and a “Fruit of the Spirit” and is a natural offshoot of a mature heart. It is the ability to connect at a heart level with another and it comes from the unconditional understanding of the nature of suffering on a personal level. Its actions are based on ways to mitigate sorrow, pain and fear through one’s own experience over sufferings. It is said that pain is one of the great teachers, and certainly suffering as well are the masters that instill the lessons of Compassion inside of one’s heart.
Having said that, one does not need to have experienced a particular pain for one to feel Compassion for others in that state. When we connect at a heart level to another with the full understanding of Oneness with the other, Compassion flows.
Compassion involves the unconditional opening of the heart. It is a donation of one’s energy, without preconditions or requirements or judgments. It requires the strength of soul to withstand within itself the suffering of others, until the relief and real healing can start. We usually see this soul skill present in the daily life of first responders of tragedies. Independently of the fact that these individual perform their daily tasks professionally, we nevertheless perceive the immanent soul skill at work.
The ayurvedic wisdom teaches that there are different stages of the Compassionate aptitude, according with the physical and diverse spiritual condition of each individual. For Instance, they classify as Pravaram the natural ability of an individual to withstand a high degree of hardship and suffering, along with adverse conditions, while generally facing them with a degree of grace and hope. They also classify a second level of this skill asMadhyamam, which is the individual ability to endure other’s suffering only when the individual has a personal web of love and support himself and the need for continuous reassurance that they are not the only ones that are experiencing suffering.
In any case, Compassion requires action and mindfulness. To simply be upset about a tragic situation, such as hearing about a natural disaster or tragedy, and then to decide to do nothing about it and go about the own daily activities is not what Compassion is about. Compassion incites our souls to move ourselves out of our comfort zone, acting on the knowledge that something from you can relieve and bring a discharge of a hardship of someone’s life. It is a true communion and connection of hearts. Through this soul skill one can create etheric cords that will facilitate the pulling of other’s heart, facilitating the removal of the pains that are oppressing their being. It does not mean to enter into the frequency of another’s suffering, but a resolution in changing the vibration of these emotions.
It should be noted that when we say “Compassion requires action”, we are not talking about violent action. Compassion and violence are anathema to each other. Helping a being, human or animal, by committing violence towards another, directly or indirectly, is an action not rooted in the heart, but in the Ego, and typically done for self-promotion.
Compassion is more than just an attitude; it is a way of living, a way of mature souls, ready to help others back onto the path towards their own liberation.
